The spring musical for Pope John High school this year will be Cinderella, Enchanted Edition. The enchantment of a magical fairy tale is reborn in this Rodgers & Hammerstein adaptation for the stage. Children and adults will be thrilled as once again, the slipper fits.
Cinderella was originally presented on television in 1957 starring Julie Andrews. It was the most widely viewed program in the history of the medium. The show was recreated in 1965 with Lesley Ann Warren. 1997 found a remake starring Brandy as Cinderella and Whitney Houston as the Fairy Godmother. This Enchanted Edition is based on Disney's 1997 teleplay with updated hilarious dialogue.
Featured actors include Sarah Starman as Cinderella and Arielle Kerkman as her Fairy Godmother. The Stepmother and Stepsisters are played by Jenny Beckman, Maria Olnes and Carey Eischeid. Austin Heying will play Prince Christopher with Kix Payne as Lionel, his trusted Steward. The King and Queen are played by Mirzomunir Jalilov and Clara Kopiez.
The musical is directed by Pope John music instructor Patricia Miller and Kate Ostenrude. Kate is the director of the Neligh Public Library and lives with her husband in Brunswick. Her theatrical experience includes being a high school speech and drama coach in Colorado and with the Community Theater groups in Neligh.
